English Wi-Fi is in

In english today I spotted a Wifi on the center of the ceiling. Looks like my room is prepared! But as I said in the last post, none of the teachers have started using them yet.

Not one teacher has used their laptop yet.

I’m absolutely positive all of my teachers have already received their laptops. Well, all the ones that are supposed to get them. It seems now that everyone has forgotten about them.

My Science teacher last term was really enthusiastic last term, she showed her’s to us as soon as she got it, but unfortunately, I now have a different Science teacher who isn’t as enthusiastic or tech-savvy.

Hopefully when we get our laptops on September 7, my teachers will get theirs out and start using them. I haven’t even seen any sitting on teachers’ desks as of yet. Where are they?

Lake High laptops come 7th September

Just wanted to let you know. A teacher on Twitter told me Lake High’s laptops come on the 7th of September.

Inactive for a while

Well if you have been wondering why I haven’t been posting as regularly as I usually do it’s because it’s the school holidays and nothing really is going on. I’ll post more when school starts like next week.

What’s in the contract?

Before you receive your netbook, you apparently have to sign a contract. But what’s in it? Does anybody know? I’m assuming it just has stuff like ‘do you take full responsibility for this computer’ bla bla bla.

But I sure hope there won’t be anything that stops me from fiddling around with it. I’d love to dual boot an OS on it, but there’s bound to be a rule against it :(

Newsletter Update #2

The last school newsletter for this term was released today, and it contained more about the netbooks.

Summary:
-At the ‘P&C’ meeting they’ll discuss issuing the netbooks and how years 10 to 12 will get to use them.
-24 netbooks have already been allocated to teachers
-Lake High gets exactly 147 netbooks for students
-They’re not planning to let us connect to the school network or the printers
-The units come with a red external case (ugh)
-If you break yours next year you wont get the brand new model as a replacement, you’ll still get the old one (how does this work out?)

Thats about it for now.

Netbooks get 9-cell batteries

Judging from the photos and videos from teachers, the netbooks get a 9 cell battery, giving you at least 6 hours of regular usage.

I always knew the netbooks were supposed to last a full school day, but I thought we were trying to squeeze this out of a normal 6 cell (4 hour) battery, until the 9 cell came along. I didn’t even know they existed.

The battery sticks out but it lifts the netbook up a bit.

My L4l article going in a magazine

I wrote an article about Laptops 4 Learning and emailed it to the editor of APC mag and it looks like it’s going to be published. So go and buy the July issue when it comes out :)
